Well, this video might make you think about your NoFap journey a bit differently.

What is A Good NoFap Streak?

Is the perfect NoFap streak a streak where you are meditating daily, doing physical exercise, taking cold showers and you have zero peeking and zero slips?

well, stay with me to the end here because this is what we're going to talk about today.

Is this a good NoFap streak?

Okay, so does a perfect streak mean that you are really going hard with tools like meditation, cold showers and that you have a perfect day counting record with zero slips?

Well first, yes the tools right here are great and I definitely think that everyone should implement them at least to some degree during their reboot. 

However, let’s draw a line here under these tools *see video*. And let’s call this the surface line.

Now, again, all these concrete tools that you can easily do are great, but almost everyone of us also have something going on beneath the surface here. Some form of demons that are messing with your life.

What kind of demons do you have lurking under the surface?

Let’s say for example that you have social anxiety, so that’s one demon here. And perhaps you have a big self-esteem problem here, and maybe you’d like to have a girlfriend, but the 2 demons are preventing you from approaching girls, and then when you see other men out there happily walking around with their girlfriends you get jealous and resentful.

And so now you have a nasty resentfulness demon over here as well.

Now listen carefully now, because here’s the thing...

A good NoFap streak does not necessarily have to be the one with zero slips...

Well, in my opinion, the perfect NoFap streak is not the one where you have ZERO slips with zero seconds of peeking while you ignore your inner demons.

No, the best NoFap streak is actually the one where you do the tools above the line, but you also work on reducing the strength of your demons.

In fact, listen to this, there is a famous line in the alcohol addiction recovery community that goes something like, abstinence is not the same as recovery.

Abstinence is not the same as recovery...

And while this is not black and white, it does have some truth to it.

Meaning, if you happen to have a lot of demons under your surface, having a NoFap streak with zero relapse and not one single slip, without you working on reducing your demons, is not going to be as good as having a NoFap streak with a one or two relapse and perhaps a few slips here and there, but where you actively work on reducing the strength of your demons.

It’s about psychology and deep human needs...

And guys, here’s the irony, for many guys out there, those demons are actually what make you relapse most of the time in the first place.

So, once you start working on getting rid of them, well, that’s the true path to freedom from addiction right there.

I hope you all get my point and whowhoohwho,  hold on a minute here...

Do not misinterpret my words, and go, "Oh Bob says it’s okay for me to just give in and relapse, just as long as i’m working on my issues."

No no no no, that’s not what I’m saying!

Still do your best to avoid relapses...

You should still try to do your best to stay away from relapses, obviously. Because, well, you all know that relapsing makes everything worse.

So, you should never relapse on purpose!

And speaking of perfect or good NoFap streaks, this leads me to a common question I frequently get.

 For example, a few days ago I got the following question in the comment section…

Common question about pmo rebooting...

“ I’m on day 16 today, however,  I peaked a bit yesterday and I feel a bit guilty because of that since my streak is now broken. Should I go ahead and relapse on purpose now so that I can start again with a perfect streak ?”

Well, no, don’t relapse on purpose.

Again, never relapse on purpose.

I know how you feel and how you mean, because I’ve been there, but there’s a flaw to your logic.

If you do one small thing that you consider to be a bit bad, then why would adding another bad thing on top of that make it any better? 

If you spend a bit too much money one day, then why would you empty your savings on purpose the following day?

Say for example that you’re saving money to buy a car for 5000 dollars and now you have 2000 dollars in savings.

Well, if you then slip and go out and get a bit drunk, you gamble  and waste 400 dollars in one single night.

Then when you wake up the following day, would you then go, "Oh man that was a big slip. Should I go out again tonight and waste the rest of my money so that I can start fresh on Monday.?"

No, of course you wouldn’t. 

And so now some of you say, but that’s not the same as a NoFap.

Well, no, but it’s still a good analogy because you have to think of your dopamine system as your brain's banking system.

Whenever you are spending time on low value dopamine activities, you run the risk of desensitizing yourself, which means that with time, you get less sensitive to dopamine, which in turn means that net effect will be the same as you’re having less dopamine in your brain.
